Prior to recently, the sale of secondhand goods was driven primarily by value: shoppers looking to avoid breaking the bank on expensive items or clothes their kids would soon grow out of. Increasingly, consumers are shopping based on their values in addition to looking for value, leading to massive growth in the used goods sector. Despite already being on the rise before COVID, socially conscious shopping and resale retail both saw an increase following the pandemic. 29% of respondents to Coresight’s recent survey said environmental sustainability influenced their shopping decisions more now than before.
